Governor Octavian Armașu said that during 30 years of the founding of the National Bank of Moldova, the banking system was subject to many tests and it accumulated knowledge and experience and leaned very harsh lessons. “We will have to be resistant to challenges. Defending the reforms implemented with abnegation and responsibility during the last few years, so that the citizens continue to enjoy the services of a transparent and safe banking system, is currently the most serious challenge,” the governor said in a message transmitted on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the NBM, IPN reports.
Octavian Armașu said that despite the current difficult context, amid the pandemic and the associated economic crisis, the banking system is viable and stable, harmonized with the international standards, with an appropriate financial architecture, with high-quality services and products.
“Alongside the financial-banking community all over the world, we reached a stage when we should reconsider the lessons learned as a result of the crisis and, from this perspective, should continue the professional path in the new realities. This generates a number of questions to which we have to find responses now. We should design a new view on the next steps and should continue the reform process in the banking sector so as to respond to the needs of the economy, propose modern products and implement what we have leaned during the crisis,” noted the governor.
Octavian Armașu expressed his confidence that the path of reforms will be continued with tenacity and responsibility so as to build a strong, transparent and competitive banking system at global level.
The National Bank of Moldova was founded on June 4, 1991 by the decree of the President of the Republic of Moldova, the foundations of the national banking sector being laid this way.
