NATO to consider extending assistance for Moldova

NATO will continue to provide support for reforming Moldova’s security sector and for training in key areas of the National Army. It will also explore the possibilities of extending the assistance in such areas as science for peace and security and strengthening of the integrity, NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow said in a meeting with Minister of Defense Valeriu Troenco, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué of the Ministry of Defense, Alexander Vershbow welcomed the deployment of a National Army contingent to the KFOR mission, saying that this way Moldova became a supplier of security.

For his part, Valeriu Troenco thanked NATO for the assistance provided to the Moldovan army in evaluating the Operational Capabilities Concept and within humanitarian assistance projects that wouldn’t have been implemented without the Organization’s support owing to the lack of financial resources, experience and knowledge.

The officials discussed the current stage of the cooperation relations between Moldova and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization within the joint programs and projects and their development prospects.
