NATO to allot MDL 135 thousand for environment study
North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) will offer MDL 135 thousand to Moldova for the implementation of a project concerning the study of pesticides’ impact over the environment.
The aspects related to the implementation of this project which will start in February 2006 were discussed by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Antolie Gorodenco and Freddy Adams, the co-director of the project, who paid a visit to Chisinau. Gorodenco mentioned that the implementation of the project will improve the image of Moldova and will contribute to penetrating foreign markets.
Project’s length is two years and includes classifying the lands contaminated with pesticides, determining the methods for curing the lands, as well as conducting some scientific researches in this field. A liquid cromotograph will be purchased for the study of the samples. Teaching staff from the State University of Moldova will be involved in the project.
The grant is a prolongation of a project implemented in 2005-2006 – “Chemical substances in Moldova”. The project was estimated at EUR 143 thousand and aims at performing lab researches of the pesticides which are prohibited or can not be used. The chemical composition of the active substances was found in order to choose the appropriate measure for destroying the pesticides.
