NATO Summit ends with signing of declaration that mentions Moldova as well

The NATO Summit in Washington ended with the signing of a joint declaration that mentions the Republic of Moldova. It calls on Russia to withdraw all of its forces from the Republic of Moldova, stationed there without its consent, said Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who participated in the NATO Summit marking the 75th anniversary of the Alliance, IPN reports.

“We welcome Moldova’s efforts to continue democratic reforms as it advances (...), with its European integration, and we are committed to supporting their security and defense capabilities, and to enhance their capacity to counter hybrid threats,” it is said in a paragraph dedicated to NATO’s relations with its partners.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi took part, as a speaker, in the “NATO Partnerships” panel within the Public Forum. He reiterated Moldova’s interest in the expertise and assistance of the North Atlantic Alliance in reforming and modernizing the security and defense sector of the Republic of Moldova, in accordance with international standards.

Mihai Popșoi noted the developments related to regional security, the risks and effects generated by the war in Ukraine, the challenges to the security of the Republic of Moldova. “The support offered to Ukraine is also support for the Republic of Moldova. Solidarity will bring peace to the region and to the whole of Europe,” said the Moldovan official.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi was in the U.S. on a visit during July 9-11.
