The NATO Summit in Washington demonstrated the unity and strength of the North Atlantic Alliance, even if the brutal war of aggression on the European continent aims at the opposite in relation to the allies and partners of the Alliance, the Head of the NATO Liaison Office in Chisinau Michaela Šimák stated during the briefing on the Washington Summit results for the Republic of Moldova, which was held at the Polish Embassy in Chisinau, the point of connection with the North Atlantic Alliance, IPN reports.

“To ensure that the allies are prepared to discourage threats and defend every inch of the allied territory, the leaders have stepped up the implementation of NATO’s defense plans. They increased investments in the field of defense and strengthened the defense industrial base. NATO leaders have made efforts to improve national and collective resilience. The allies also announced the creation of a new integrated cyber defense center and the intention to continue developing our capacity to counter hostile disinformation and information manipulation operations,” said Michaela Šimák.

Poland’s Ambassador to Moldova Tomasz Kobzdej underlined the Embassy’s role as a point of contact of Moldovan officials with NATO, as well as the fact that the Alliance expanded to 32 members. He said that the war in the region affects both Ukraine and Moldova, and Ukraine’s accession to NATO is the only way to maintain peace in Europe.

The diplomat noted that, in the long term, NATO must be ready for both hybrid and military challenges. “This means that the eastern flank of the Alliance is in the spotlight for the moment. NATO’s commitment to Ukraine must be long-lasting, constant and effective. Russia must pay the price for the policy it pursues. We should help Ukraine through security assistance, trained troops, financial support,” said Tomasz Kobzdej.
