The NATO Cooperative Longbow/Lancer military maneuvers on the territory of the Republic of Moldova is improper, is against the Constitution and could worsen the Transnistrian situation, Nicolae Andronic, leader of the Republican People’s Party (PPR) told a news conference on Tuesday, August 29. According to Andronic, the NATO military maneuvers from the territory of Moldova are against the Constitution, in which is stated that the Republic of Moldova is a neutral state under any circumstances. Also, according to the cited source, the maneuvers can give the unrecognized officials from the left of Nistru the motivation to organize the referendum from September 17 and could have negative effects on the development of the conflict. The PPR leader claims that the government has no real excuse for allowing such military applications on the territory of Moldova, and the motivation presented that other ex-soviet countries, like Russia and Ukraine, have had collaborations with the North-Atlantic Treaty are unjustified. ”The exercises would be probably justified if the status of Moldova as a neutral country wouldn’t be violated, if not for the Transnistrian conflict and for the small state budget”, Andronic declared. He also mentioned that his faction will not make protests against the NATO military maneuvers, as it was done in Ukraine. The NATO Cooperative Longbow/Lancer military maneuvers will take place during September 11- 29 on the Bulboaca based polygon.
