NATO experts on visit to Moldova

A group of experts of the NATO Defense Policy and Planning Committee responsible for the implementation of the Defense Capacity Building Initiative for the Republic of Moldova are ending their two-day working visit to Chisinau on January 24, IPN reports, with reference to the Ministry of Defense.

The goal of the visit was to assess the first phase of the Initiative, which includes the formulation of defense policy documents and identification of possibilities by which NATO can support the Republic of Moldova at the second implementation phase.

The Republic of Moldova has been a party to the Defense and Related Security Capacity Building Initiative since 2015 and benefits from assistance in developing the current defense capacities. The assistance consists in the adjustment of the national legislation to the international one and of the security strategy. Emphasis is placed on the revision and agreeing of military risks and threats to Moldova’s security.

The Republic of Moldova was invited to join the Defense and Related Security Capacity Building Initiative at the NATO Summit of 2014. In June 2015, the defense ministers of the NATO member states approved the assistance packaged “Defense Capacity Building for the Republic of Moldova”.
