Between September 1 and 16, the “World Cleanup Day 2023” campaign will take place in the country. It aims to raise awareness about the efforts of the Republic of Moldova to align with the objectives set by the EU. The campaign will culminate with a nationwide cleanup event on September 16.
According to the Ministry of the Environment, that World Cleanup Day is marked annually on the third Saturday of September. It is one of the world’s largest civic actions, bringing together millions of volunteers, governments and organizations from 191 countries, who stand in solidarity to address global environmental challenges and build a sustainable future.
“World Cleanup Day is not only a cleanup activity, but also an instrument to catalyze change, with participating countries aiming to involve 5% of the population to accelerate the transition process to circular economy and sustainable development. This campaign shows how a simple joint waste collection activity brings much-needed changes to society” the Ministry said in a press release.
The organizer and initiator of this worldwide campaign is the organization “Let's Do It, World”.
This year, the main messages of the campaign will be about reducing plastic consumption and separate waste collection. These topics will provide opportunities for various stakeholders to reflect on both the work done and the urgent next steps needed towards sustainable waste management in the future.
The national campaign is organized by the Ministry of the Environment, the “European Union for the Environment - Green Economy” project and the “National Center for the Environment” NGO, with the involvement of a large number of development partners, NGOs and the academic community.
