Nationality will be written in birth certificate only

The civil status documents will not contain information about the person’s nationality, except for the birth certificate. Relevant amendments to the law on civil status documents were approved by the Government on March 23, Info-Prim Neo reports. Under the amendments, the ethnicity of the person in the birth certificate will be written at the request of the person older than 16 or of the parents, on the basis of own responsibility statements. Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase said he hopes the amendments will contribute to the enforcement of the European Convention for the Protection of the Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, given that the internal procedure for modifying the ethnic origin is adjusted to the Convention. Also on Wednesday, the Government approved a decision whereby Moldova joins the Hague Convention on the Recognition of Divorces and Legal Separations.
