National Union Council calls on people to take part in National Assembly of May 21

Representatives of the National Union Council calls upon the citizens with dignity to take part in the National Assembly “European Moldova” that was convoked by President Maia Sandu for May 21. They said that in the gathering they will ask to be allowed to speak so that they could propose the reunion with Romania by legal ways.

“As the chairman of the National Union Council, I will submit an application to be allowed to speak at this National Assembly so that we state our opinion that the reunification by legal ways should be put to the vote. From national, territorial, linguistic viewpoints, there is no problem. By legal ways, we should ultimately start to implement the Declaration of Independence with the liquidation of the consequences of the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact for Bessarabia, the current Republic of Moldova, the south of Bessarabia, the north of Bucovina and Hertsa region, by launching the procedure at international level,” the Council’s chairman Alexandru Arseni stated in a news conference hosted by IPN.

“We call on all those with dignity to come and vote, as the grandparents, great-grandparents or parents of some of you came on August 27, 1990 and voted for Independence,” said Alexandru Arseni. He noted that approaches will be made for the agenda of the June 1 European Political Community Summit that will bring together heads of state and prime ministers to include the recognition of the national and territorial reunification.

Gheorghe Viță, deputy chairman of the National Union Council, said that since it declared its Independence, the Republic of Moldova has remained under the yoke of the Russian Empire because the country continues to depend on this empire. “We should now say clearly what we want. According to the last surveys, 51% of the population of the Republic of Moldova wants the country to be reunified. For 31 years, we have tried to build a state and failed,” stated Gheorghe Viță.

“Now, at the National Assembly of May 21, 2023, I call on everyone – unionists, non-unionists, those with Romanian nationality and those without Romanian nationality – to come to the Great National Assembly Square with one slogan: “Reunification of the Country,” urged Gheorghe Viță.

Council member Ion Ilichuk, said that this territory should be now secured as the Republic of Moldova and Romania do not have linguistic and visa barriers. Time has come to take one more step after the Romanian language was included as the official language in the Constitution too. The language is the cornerstone, the backbone of a state.

The representatives of the National Union Council reminded of April 27, 1990 when the Independence Parliament adopted the state flag. According to them, this symbol was legalized and also the foundations of the national and territorial reunification with Romania were laid de jure and de facto. The tricolor, alongside the state anthem and the official language, are national symbols and those symbols that the totalitarian regimes tried to impose do not have a place on this land. The Council called on the Constitutional Court to review its recent decision concerning the wearing of the Ribbon of Saint George.
