The national Under 21 football squad of Moldova strengthened its second position in the sixth group of the qualifying competition of the 2015 European Championship. The team trained by Alexandru Curteian scored a new victory against Lithuania, 3-0, this time in Vilnius, IPN reports.
As in Tiraspol, the goals were scored by Nicolae Milinceanu and Igor Dima. Milinceanu opened the score in the 31st minute with an excellent kick from outside the square. This was the fourth goal in the Euro 2015 qualifying competition of the Veris striker. Milinceanu was yet outrun by Igor Dima. With two goals in the first half, Sheriff now has five goals scored in the current qualifying competition.
“We are happy that we beat Luthunia, but now I think about the penalty I missed in the match against Finland. We want to win all the games,” halfback Gheorghe Anton has told IPN.
“It wasn’t an easy mach. We did everything that our coach told us. We believed in us and God helped us to score a nice victory. It’s a pity that we didn’t manage to win a victory in Finland too, but we still hope to qualify,” said fullback Ion Prodan.
The national team has 16 points, by four more than Finland, which played by one match fewer. Moldova can secure the second place if it wins the last game against England in Tiraspol on September 9. England already secured the first place and will compete for a place in the Euro 2015. Moldova has smaller qualification chances as only the best five second-ranked teams from the ten groups qualify.
