National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” revives play “Pippi Long Stocking”

The National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” of Chisinau is preparing a new premiere, this time for children. The play “Pippi Long Stocking” in two productions will involve four young acting students who will sing live. Radmila Popovici-Paraschiv wrote the verses on the music of Valy Boghean, IPN reports.

The play’s director Petru Hadarca, who is also the director of the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu”, told a news conference that the Theater didn’t have a play for children in its repertory for a long time. “But the children are the most reliable spectators. They are those who cannot be lied to. They believe in the sincerity coming from the stage. We started the rehearsals, but there is yet a lot of work to be done until the premiere. The décor and costumes haven’t been yet finished,” he stated.

The idea of producing “Pippi Long Stocking” appeared because last year the Theater celebrated a jubilee of Dina Cocea, who was named the Best Pippi of the Soviet Union. “In order to revive the history of theater, we decided to bring back this play on the stage, but in a different way and with a different energy,” said Petru Hadarca.

He also said that the Theater’s troupe now counts about 50 talented actors who not always are engaged in all the plays. That’s why they decided to put on two productions. The music, acting and idea of the play will be the same, but the play will be performed by two teams of actors separately.

The premiere will take place on February 27. The play will be presented daily at 12 noon and at 3pm.
