The national men’s tennis team is optimistic before the Davis Cup duel with Belarus’ squad. The best Moldovan player Radu Albot, who is the 177th in the ATP rankings, said he is not afraid of the opponents, even if the world tennis legend Max Mirnyi plays for Belarus, IPN reports.
Mirnyi was the world’s Number 1 in the doubles in 2003, but now ranks 12th. He is not yet present in the singles ATP rankings, even if he was the 12th in the past. “We are not afraid of the Belarusians. We are convinced that we can beat them,” Radu Albot told a news conference.
Moldova’s lineup includes Radu Albot, Maxim Dubarenko (353rd in ATP) and Andrei Ciumac (756th), with Andrei Gorban as captain. Belarus will be presented by Egor Gerasimov (265th), Vladimir Ignatik (251st), Dmitri Jirmont (327th), and Max Mirnyi (12th in the doubles ATP rankings).
Tickets are available from the office of the Moldovan Football Federation for 50 to 100 lei. The coming days, tickets will be also sold at the Polyvalent Hall, where the games between Moldova and Belarus will be played on April 4-6. The duel forms part of the Davis Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group II.
