National roads to be rehabilitated with EIB support

The European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide financing for rehabilitating the Moldovan roads. An agreement on the lending of €150 million by the European Investment Bank was signed in Luxemburg by Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and EIB Vice President Wilhelm Molterer, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Government, the money will be used to reconstruct the roads on the trans-European corridors going through Moldova – the south-western part of the Chisinau belt, to finish the connection between Porumbeni and Cimislia and a bypassing in Comrat.

Wilhelm Molterer said the EIB is aware of the challenges faced by the Moldovan Government and is ready to support it as Moldova is considered a professional partner and a regional leader in promoting the reforms needed to develop the business environment.

During the six years of cooperation between Moldova and the EIB, there were initiated nine investment projects to the value of €282 million in such areas as road infrastructure, wine industry, renovation of the public transport in Chisinau, sewerage and water supply in a number of towns, and lending to small and medium-sized companies.
