National public broadcaster to be reformed

The new Broadcasting Code provides for the reformation of the national public broadcaster “Tele-Radio Moldova” by separating the radio from television. “There will be applied a good practice that is used in the EU. The national television channel should be separated from the public radio station,” the chairman of the Broadcasting Coordination Council Marian Pocaznoi said in a radio program, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to Marian Pocaznoi, the new Broadcasting Code will enable the broadcasters to increase their incomes by diversifying the forms of advertising. It also contains restrictions aimed at protecting the juveniles. The draft Code was discussed at public debates. “The Code is almost ready. It was debated in a roundtable meeting involving all the interested sides and is to be amended,” the deputy head of the parliamentary commission on culture, education and mass media Corina Fusu said in this connection. More than 30% of the provisions of the current Code have been modified or there were included new chapters. A new round of debates and roundtable meetings will be held in the near future to improve the draft Code.
