National project “Messengers of Peace” to involve over 800 scouts

The national project “Messengers of Peace” that was launched by the National Scout Association of Moldova will bring together over 800 scouts of different ages, including children whose parents work abroad. It will aim to develop the social, intellectual, moral, and physical capacities through the scout method, Info-Prim Neo reports. In the project launch event, Irina Ceban, executive secretary of the International Department of the National Scout Association, said that “Messengers of Peace” is a national pilot project that will last by October. “By this project, we will theoretically and practically train the new scout leaders, will create new scout groups. In spring, we will teach the participants to put up a tent, to start a fire and to organize activities in nature,” she stated, adding in July the students will take a test to show their scout skills. International Department commissioner Doina Postica said the project is financed by the World Scout Foundation and has a budget of US$30,000. “The project is part of the global initiative “Messenger of Peace” that was launched by two famous persons – the king of Sweden and the king of Saudi Arabia. During 10 years, they implemented a lot of projects. They created a joint fund for peace and allocate money from it for different projects,” she said. Within the project, there will be trained 15 scout leaders and more than 800 persons. The National Scout Association of Moldova was founded in 1993 and has seven branches, including in Balti, Camenca, Cahul, Chisinau, Nisporeni, Orhei, and Stefan Voda.
