National program on competition and state aid approved

The Government agreed the national program on competition and state aid for 2017- 2020, proposed by the Competition Council. The authors aim to develop a fair competition environment and to institute a modern mechanism for the provision and monitoring of state aid. The program sets out 37 objectives that are to be achieved by the Competition Council, the central and local public authorities and business entities, IPN reports.

Based on the document, the national legislation that regulates business activity will be adjusted so that this is compatible with the Competition Law. There will be identified the entities that will be empowered with exclusive rights at the national and local levels and optimized the system of exclusive rights and financing with the public resources of state-owned and municipal enterprises.

An important objective is to instruct the players in competition law. There will be promoted competition culture in society, including through the central and local public authorities.

According to the Competition Council, the implementation of these and other measures defined in the program will help increase the welfare of consumers through the provision of products and services of a high quality at prices set based on the supply and demand. The draft law on the national program on competition and state aid for 2017- 2020 is to be examined and adopted by Parliament.
