The National Police are celebrating the 32nd anniversary of their founding. On this occasion, President Maia Sandu said the police, supported by other state institutions, play an important role in ensuring public order, security and stability, primarily now that the state is attacked, including with hybrid warfare, in times of multiple crises that cause dissatisfaction in society, IPN reports.

“The police system, through the local police, patrol police, investigation police and other specialized bodies, play a major role in managing the security crisis we experience. Your major responsibility is to prevent provocations, to ensure public order and the safety of the flow of refugees. An extended series of other complex activities and special operations guarantee the safety of our citizens,” President Sandu stated in an event held to celebrate the Police Day.

Maia Sandu said that many of the police officers entered the system motivated primarily by patriotism, the wish to protect the community. Society is based on these values. “In 2022, the world became more dangerous, more unstable. In this new world in which the shelling of localities with civilian population or the strikes on vital infrastructure became ordinary news items, Moldova is a seriously affected country. Even if the war ends now, its negative consequences will be felt for a long time yet,” stated the official, noting the national police in time handled extraordinary security crises.

“There were remarkable years owing to different challenges, but the police during these years fulfilled their duties with devotion and showed courage, professionalism and abnegation. The mission of the police is to protect the people and to ensure a climate of safety and confidence, regardless of the complexity of the case or the season outside. Owing to the efforts made in time, we are a strong team that coped with the challenges and showed that it is always ready to act,” said the head of the General Police Inspectorate Viorel Cernăuțeanu.

Minister of Home Affairs Ana Revenco said the forces of the internal affairs system were the first to intervene and solve crises that cause destabilization, starting with COVID-19 and ending with the hybrid war. The police are always on duty.

The National Police Day is celebrated on December 18.
