The National Payments Council will start work in September, immediately after the law on the electronic payment services comes into force. The Council was conceived as a high-level professional consultancy forum between different public and private institutions for supporting the safe and stable functioning of the system of payments in Moldova.
According to a communiqué from the National Bank of Moldova, the National Payments Council will make sure that the payment services meet the market demand so as to satisfy the necessities of end-users. The forum will also deal with the promotion of secured and accessible cash-free payment instruments, given their innovative character.
Under the statutes approved by the National Bank, the National Payments Council will consist of representatives of the senior management of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economy, the ICT Ministry, the Electronic Government Center, the Banks Association of Moldova, banks and other payment services providers and issuers of electronic money that will possess a license from the National Bank.
