National Museum of History hosts exhibition of martsishors

The National Museum of History, in partnership with the Esthetic Education Center “Lastarel”, mounted the first exhibition of martsishors “Colors of Martsishors”  that will be open until March 10. Housed by the museum, the exhibition includes 150 hand-made martsishors (amulets worn at chest to celebrate the coming of spring) and postcards, IPN reports.

The works were made by children who attend the courses taught at the Esthetic Education Center “Lastarel”.  The exhibits include the works chosen as the best at the contest “Martsishor between tradition and modernity”.

Viorica Florea, methodologist at the Center “Lastarel”, said this nice initiative is designed to promote the old values and customs of wearing martsishors, which are over 2,000 years old.

The exhibited martsishors were made according to both old and modern techniques such as making of strings from thread and wool as well as origami, quilling and beading. Viorica Florea said a part of the exhibits will be donated to the National Museum of History.

A ticket to the exhibition costs 10 lei.
