The national minimum salary as from January 1, 2024 will be 5,000 lei, up from 4,000 lei, and will be applied both in the public sector and in the real sector. Respectively, employees who will have salaries lower than 5,000 lei will benefit from compensatory payments. This is provided in a bill to amend the law on the unitary salary system in the public sector, which was given a final reading by Parliament, IPN reports.
In order to execute a Constitutional Court judgment, amendments were made to the same law to raise the pay grades for some of the civil servants of the Superior Council of Magistracy, the Supreme Court of Justice, courts of appeal, district courts, the Constitutional Court and to align them with the salaries of civil servants of other authorities. For the same categories of officials, the specific bonus was decreased from 60% to 40%.
For the second reading, an amendment was introduced and this stipulates that mayors, deputy mayors and secretaries of the local council will receive a bonus of 50% of the basic salary. The proposal was submitted by MP of the Party of Action and Solidarity Ersilia Qatrawi and is designed to strengthen managerial capacities.
The legislative initiative was adopted by the votes of 58 MPs.
