It is three weeks until the national men’s tennis team enters a new Davis Cup tournament. It will meet the squad of Egypt in Chisinau, within the first round of the Europe/Africa Zone, IPN reports.
President of the Moldovan Tennis Federation Marina Tauber hopes Moldova will beat Egypt. “Our objective is to qualify for the first group. Thus, we must defeat three opponents. Egypt is the first obstacle, but we are the favorites because we play at home,” she said in a news conference. The national men’s team includes Radu Albot, Maxim Dubarenko, Andrei Ciumac, and Andrei Gorban.
National Olympic Committee deputy head Victor Peicov said that tennis became an important sport in Moldova. “Last year, tennis brought us the first medal won in the European Youth Olympic Festival. We hope that in the future it will represent us at the Olympic Games too,” he stated.
The encounters between Moldova and Egypt will take place at the Polyvalent Hall in Chisinau between January 31 and February 2.
