National Library stages exhibition centering on family as a symbol and supreme value

The National Library of the Republic of Moldova invites visitors to an exhibition entitled “Family as a symbol and supreme value” that was mounted on the occasion of the International Day of Families that is celebrated annually on May 15. The exhibition includes about 180 copies of documents, has seven divisions and can be visited until June 14.

Contacted by IPN for details, Tatiana Gheiceanu, head of the Public Reading Division, reminded that the International Day of Families was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 1993 as an event with a fixed date marked on May 15 each year. “Each year, the UN chooses a motto for this day and the theme of 2021 is “Families and New Technologies” that focuses on the impact of new technologies on the wellbeing of families. The COVID0-19 pandemic revealed the importance of digital technologies in work, education and communication,” stated Tatiana Gheiceanu.

According to her, the goal of the exhibition is to promote the role of the family in the general structure of society, the importance of psycho-physical and moral-spiritual health of the family. “We exhibited documents focusing on the Christian morality concerning the establishment of a healthy family, which contains conversations with young people about marriage, family and children. The documents refer to the place of the family in the general structure of society, the family’s impact on society and vice versa. There are also documents that refer to the relationship between the family and school,” said the Division’s head.

The seven divisions have different themes, such as Family – Home Church, Family and Society, Family and School. “They are seven because we aimed to have a greater impact on the library’s visitors and to familiarize them with these documents from the collections of the National Library, with the importance of this major value – the family and to also promote values in society, to familiarize the reader with these titles. These documents can inform them and can possible change their perception,” stated Tatiana Gheiceanu.

The exhibition is open until June 14. The period includes the International Children’s Day that is celebrated on June 1. In this connection, the organizers also displayed documents about the role of parents in raising, educating and developing the young generation and many other publications intended for parents and children. “We are waiting for children, students to visit our library on this day,” said Tatiana Gheiceanu.
