National Library opens its doors to visitors of all ages

The National Library has opened its doors to visitors of all ages within the third edition of the Library Nocturne that was inaugurated at 4pm and will continue until 9pm.

Contacted by IPN, National Library director Elena Pintilei said the visitors of the Library Nocturne can take part in a calligraphy workshops to learn about the writing of the Medieval period, guided by graphic artist and painter Valeriu Herţa. The National Library’s Audio-Videoteque Service stages the event “Music on the balcony” with epoch music on the second floor of the historical block.

According to Elena Pintilei, a painting workshop is held in the central block. The visitors can learn how to restore books at an improvised café. At a digitization workshop, those attending can see a modern scanner that digitizes the country’s old book heritage. The visitors can also see the National Library’s storerooms that are inaccessible to the traditional users.

All the services of the National Library are presented during the event. The young people aged between 14 and 18 can get a reader’s permit free of charge. “The goal is to promote the library in the community. We invite everyone to know the National Library,” stated Elena Pintilei.

The Library Nocturne is organized by the National Association of Librarians and Public Libraries of Romania in partnership with the Association of Librarians of Moldova and is supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research.
