The students of four education institutions of Chisinau were informed about the danger of taking drugs in a public conference organized by the UN Information Center of the National Library on May 28, in connection with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking that is annually marked on June 26, IPN reports.
National Library director general Elena Pintilei told the young people it is very important to understand what trying drugs for the first time means and how can the drugs destroy one’s life. The young people often become victims of drug traffickers because they don’t know how to organize their free time. “The drugs are a mistaken path. When you set off on it, you do not have a future in front of you,” she stated.
Narcologist Eudochia Paciu said the drugs bring a lot of problems and make the mothers suffer and make young people struggle between life and death. The young people are more exposed to drugs because they are easily lured by ill-intentioned persons. The doctors and the police supervise about 12,000 drug addicts who sought help from specialists.
Head of the Anti-Drug Division of the General Police Inspectorate Ion Turcanu told the students that the drugs are a source of income for ill-intentioned persons who do not care about the fate of those who take these. About 1,300 offenses involving drugs are annually documented in Moldova.
The public conference “Because the young people matter – Choose a drug-free life” centered on the Sustainable Development Goals and was designed to support the 2030 Agenda that was adopted by the heads of state and government of the 193 member states of the UN in 2015.
