National Liberation Movement joins in event set to take place in central Chisinau on July 5

Members of the initiative group of the National Liberation Movement announced their support for the event that is to be staged by the National Unity Bloc in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau on July 5. In a news conference at IPN on July 2, these presented a set of demands that are to be included in the resolution that will be adopted in the July 5 event called the Great National Assembly.

Historian Anatol Petrencu said this assembly has a special importance as the people will be reminded about the historical events and their consequences by it. It is legitimate for a unionist movement to exist and it should be supported. “The unionist movement is a movement that should solve the problems that the political parties cannot regrettably solve,” he stated.

“Many years passed since the Great National Assembly of 1989, which we attended, and the young people of today are the then children who came together with their parents to that event. History repeats somehow. Regretfully, our enthusiasm from that assembly faded away because those whom we voted betrayed us, but the hope and Romanian spirit do not die and history will repeat,” said movement’s member Tamara Gorincioi.

Another representative of the movement Sergiu Cojocaru said he lives a feeling of joy because such a movement, consisting of young people, appeared in Moldova. These people remind about the National Liberation Movement created by the people who cared, but who were betrayed for many times in time. “I see the determination of these young people to go until the end and I’m glad that a patriotic movement exits in Moldova,” he stated.

Valerian Grosu mentioned among their demands the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the 14th Army, levying of a tax for the deployment of the Russian army on Moldova’s territory since 1991, restoration of the national radio network for informing the people, liquidation of the customs posts set up on the Prut, halving of the number of MPs and restoration of the stolen US$1billion and punishment of those to blame.

Vlad Pohila, supporter of the movement, said the event planned by the National Unity Bloc inspires hope. The set of demands presented today show that the young people who form part of the Bloc are supported in their efforts. Member Gigore Popa said these young people have the same thinking as he had over 20 years ago, when he took part in similar events.

The National Unity Bloc plans to hold the Great National Assembly in the central square of Chisinau to demand Union with Romania on July 5, starting at 2pm. After the assembly, the participants during a week will go on a march, called the March of Stephan the Great, to the Prut, where on July 11 they will stage the flower bridge. Afterward they will go to Bucharest.
