The national identity is the most important issue in the bilateral relations between Romania and the Republic of Moldova. This is the key matter included in the strategy of the National Liberal Party (PNL) of Romania concerning the relations with the Republic of Moldova. PNL senator Viorel Badea, in a news conference at IPN, said the strategy is designed to be a starting point for all the de political forces of Romania, for civil society and the citizens of Moldova.
“The strategy is a position document of the National Liberal Party, which reflects the interest that the party has in the Republic of Moldova. The PNL proposed a formula of political consensus on the relationship with Moldova to Romanian society. It is a kind of political partnership and partnership with civil society,” stated the senator.
According to him, this is a strategy of involvement at economic, cultural, spiritual, media and identity levels. “It’s no longer a secret that the Romanians from both sides of the Prut form part of the same nation. A lot of politicians from Romania, Moldova and Europe said this. It’s not the case to speak now about the common language, culture, traditions, etc. This was the reason based on which we drafted the strategy,” said Viorel Badea.
Under the strategy, corruption fighting must be a fundamental objective of the cooperation between Bucharest and Chisinau. This objective can be achieved by promoting and developing goods practice and institutional models from Romania in Moldova, by harmonizing the legal framework and facilitating the exchange of information between institutions.
The strategy also envisions the generalization of the exchange of experience between all the institutions involved in the fight against corruption from the two states. The members of the PNL suggest summoning a joint meeting of the governments of the two countries where to adopt a joint plan of action for fighting corruption.
According to the authors of the strategy, the projects to promote the Romanian language and culture are strategic. Among the priorities, these mentioned the founding of a new Romanian library and cultural centers and establishment of partnerships between the cultural institutions of Moldova and Romania. The strategy also encourages the Romanian TV channels to broadcast in Moldova and the news agency Agerpres to expand and cover also the north and south of Moldova.
The strategy was adopted by the National Standing Bureau of the PNL and is to be presented to the political parties and civil society of Romania.
