National Liberal Party defends campaign video

The National Liberal Party (PNL) dismisses as groundless the complaint filed by the Communist Party (PCRM) with the Central Election Commission (CEC) requesting it to ban a video run by the PNL in the campaign preceding the constitutional referendum on September 5, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The complaint doesn't contain the slightest piece of evidence to substantiate the prohibition of the video”, PLN president Vitalia Pavlicenco told a news conference on Friday. The PCRM complained in particular that the video calls to unification with Romania, which, the Communists consider, violates Moldova's statehood and sovereignty. But Vitalia Pavlicenco argues that the PNL has widely used this message on previous occasions, including during the Communist government, and there haven't been any sanctions against it. “The complaint is unsubstantiated because the PNL's message doesn't plead against the sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova, but it pleads for discussing a subject within society (...) because every party should be allowed to plead for whatever idea it considers best”, said Pavlicenco, adding: “The Communists just can't abandon their habit to suppress those who have a different opinion”. “The PNL calls for the reunification with Romania within the existing constitutional framework, be it through a referendum or a direct vote in Parliament. The PNL has never called to a violent overthrow of Moldova's constitutional regime or of its international status”, the party said in a statement on this occasion.
