The Kempo Federation of Moldova will organize the National Kempo Championship this autumn. According to the Federation’s president Valentin Vizant, their goals are to identify the athletes who will compete in the World Kempo Championship in Hungary, to encourage the young people to lead a more active life and to develop this new type of fighting for Moldova, IPN reports.
“The championship will bring together a large number of participants. They will compete in such events as karate, judo, box, and king-boxing,” Valentin Vizant said in a news conference.
He also said that this championship is aimed at developing kempo fighting in Moldova. “We are at the first development stage of this new fighting style. Our current kempo athletes came from jiu-jitsu. However, they achieve remarkable results,” said the Federation’s president. The costs of organizing the national championship will be covered by the Federation, while the participation in the 2014 World Kempo Championship may be financed by the Ministry of Youth and Sport.
General coach and vice president of the Kempo Federation of Moldova Roman Babii said that they are negotiating the date of the national championship with the International Federation. “The competition will take place in October or the first half of November,” he stated.
A number of 189 sportspersons took part in the National Kempo Championship last year. The best 27 of them represented Moldova at this year’s World Kempo Championship in Turkey, winning 50 medals.
