The out of order fountains near the National Hotel have been sanitized with the involvement of persons sanctioned to carry out unpaid works for community benefit. Even if the fountains are not public property, the works have been undertaken by the Center Sector Head’s Office.
Deputy Sector Head Angelina Mistreț told IPN that authorities have reacted after several photos appeared in social networks, showing rubbish thrown into the fountains. "We are talking about the center of the city, the heart of Chisinau, which must be kept clean. We are committed to being responsible for this,” Angelina Mistreț said.
The deputy sector head mentions that, no matter who is cleaning the area, the local authority or the economic agent, it is important that citizens keep it tidy. "We hope that people will become aware of the situation, will understand that we are in the year two thousand and must behave differently. Especially since we tend to have a European culture, where such things are not allowed, " the deputy head said.
The Sector Head’s Office had to request the involvement of persons sanctioned with community service, because it does not have enough employees in the sanitation field.
In September last year, IPN wrote that fountains in front of the National Hotel, which have been out of order since the hotel closed, have become a garbage dump where passers-by throw bottles and other household waste. The former interim mayor Ruslan Codreanu ordered the involvement of specialized municipal services for fountains cleaning. But people continued to litter the area.
