More than 400 professionals from the healthcare sector, representatives of the local and central public authorities, embassies working in Moldova and of the country’s foreign development partners came together in Chisinau to take part in the National Health Forum “Health and socioeconomic development in Moldova: from policies to joint actions,” IPN reports.
Attending the event, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said the health system is a priority for the Government. “Our mission is to ensure the people’s access to medical services of a high quality and to create honorable work conditions for all the categories of health workers in Moldova. Our goal is to make sure that the medical personnel have salaries in line with the European standards, but the medical services should also meet these standards,” he stated, adding that another goal of the reform in the health sector is to increase the people’s confidence in the health professionals.
Special invitee Rimate Salaseviciute, the Minister of Health of Lithuania, subscribed to the Moldovan Premier’s statements, saying that the doctors should also show more respect towards the patients. She noted that Moldova and Lithuania signed a cooperation agreement in the health sector and invited the participants in the forum to exchange experience with specialists from Lithuania. “Come to Lithuania and our doctors will come to you on a visit too,” stated the minister.
Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola said that healthcare is the core of the Moldova – EU cooperation and is a key area for ensuring the country’s prosperity. Over the last 10 years, the EU financed projects to modernize the health system of Moldova to the value of over €63 million. The reform of the healthcare system is also a good occasion for building confidence between the two sides of the Nistru as the common medical services of a high quality can bring the people closer.
The National Health Forum of October 22-23 was organized by the Ministry of Health in partnership with the World Health Organization Mission to Moldova, with the financial support of the EU Delegation to Moldova and the Swish Agency for Development and Cooperation.
