Preparations for the National Greening Day “A Tree for our Eternity” are in full swing in Chisinau. On Saturday, April 5, works on expanding green spaces by planting trees and shrubs and other beautification activities will be held in every district of the capital, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Chisinau City Hall has formulated an action plan for the campaign and backed it with a decree. Chisinau’s chief arborist Eliferii Haruta has told a recent City Hall meeting that this year too the tree seedlings will be bought from the nurseries of the Forestry Agency Moldsilva. This year’s target is to plant a total of 20,420 trees and shrubs. So far, some 3,300 persons have volunteered to take part in the upcoming campaign. However, according to deputy chief arborist Galina Leahu, this number is lower than in previous years. Businesses as well as ordinary residents of the city are urged to get more actively involved in the activities planned for the National Greening Day. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca has revealed that the municipality of Bucharest offered to build a square in Chisinau, and to make the project possible, the City Hall officials are to identify this week an appropriate site for the square. The Mayor also informed the City Hall of the European Commission Delegation’s intention to beautify a park on the occasion of Europe Day.
