National football team improves position in FIFA rankings

The national football team of Moldova climbed one spot to the 121st in the FIFA rankings released on April 9, IPN reports.

Moldova went up in the rankings even if it lost the match played at home against Sweden. The team trained by Alexandru Curteian will next meet Luxemburg, on June 9, and Liechtenstein, on June 14, within the 2016 European Championship qualifying rounds. Both of the games will be played away.

Among Moldova’s opponents in Group G, Austria has the best position – 25th. Russia ranks 32nd, Sweden – 39th, Montenegro – 70th, while Liechtenstein – 128th. The FIFA rankings are headed by world champion Germany, which is followed by Argentina and Belgium. The next rankings will be made public on May 7.
