National football team enter European Championship qualifying rounds Monday

The national football team of Moldova will make its debut in the 2016 UEFA European Championship qualifying rounds on September 8. The ‘tricolors’ will play the first match against Montenegro away. The team will travel to Podgorica on September 6, IPN reports.

The best Moldovan footballer of 2013 Alexandru Gatcan suffered an injury and will be unable to play against Montenegro. The presence of Anatol Cheptine, Radu Ginsari and Oleg Clonin is also in question. “These are important players whom we would like to summon,” Moldova coach Ion Caras told a news conference.

The last time, Moldova met Montenegro in the last match of the previous qualifying rounds, also away. The ‘tricolors’ scored a sensational 5-2 victory then. “I think they will do their best and even more to take revenge,” said the captain of the national team of Moldova Alexandru Epureanu.

“It’s important to cope and to show that the result we scored in Montenegro wasn’t accidental,” said halfback Artur Ionita.

The encounter between Montenegro and Moldova starts at 9:45pm, Moldova’s time.
