Inspectors of the National Food Safety Agency will step up checkups on Easter. During the Easter holidays, including on weekends, inspectors will be on duty in all the Agency’s regional divisions and will intervene to deal with complaints about the quality of purchased products, IPN reports.
National Food Safety Agency vice director general Ion Toma told a news conference that processing units and abattoirs as well as the markets will be subject to stricter control. He called on the consumers to be attentive to the products they buy. A sanitary-veterinary certification stamp should exist on the meat packing, while the eggs should be marked with the laying day. The egg paint should be bought only from authorized places as counterfeit paint can be toxic, especially for children.
Ion Toma warned against buying food products from the street as these are subject to no control and have a dubious origin. Also, the hygiene conditions and sale and keeping norms are not respected and the health and even life of consumers is thus endangered.
The consumers are urged to report food safety irregularities on the free phone number 0 800 800 33.
