National Food Safety Agency takes samples from Roshen products

The National Food Safety Agency will examine the quality of the products of the Ukrainian candies factory Roshen that are sold in the national stores. Such a decision was taken after Russia’s food safety body Rospotrebnadzor halted the import of these products into Russia, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Agency, the benzopyrene substance identified by Rospotrebnadzor in the milk chocolate is contained in atmosphere and in some foods, especially smoked products. If it is present in food products in relatively large quantities, it poses a risk of developing cancer.

Under the national legislation, benzopyrene is kept under official control when making and selling smoked fish, smoked meat and other smoked products. The Agency said that no cases of exceeding the admissible levels of this substance have been reported so far. Thus, the mentioned products pose no danger.

The National Food Safety Agency informs that Moldova and the European Union do not carry out official inspections in the case of candies. However, given the tense situation concerning the Roshen products, the Agency decided to take samples from them. The results will be made public later.
