National Farmers Federation in favor of subsidizing farmers for projects

The president of the National Farmers Federation of Moldova Vasile Myrzenko considers that the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry’s initiative to subsidize the farmers for the projects presented and selected by contest is correct and opportune. Myrzenko said such a method will allow the state to support the efficient producer, not an abstract one. “It will be hard to teach the farmers how to work out a project. Therefore, we, producers’ organizations, try to strengthen our consultancy capacity. We will go to districts, will explain the subsidization directions and will pass on the information to the extension centers,” he said. Myrzenko also said that there are a number of projects financed by foreign donors. New projects will be launched in 2010. They have their own consultancy specialists and could help train local consultants. “I hope we will manage to teach the agricultural producers quickly and the new subsidization method will help improve the situation of the small farmers, who accounted for only 10% of the subsidies during the last few years, while the large farms absorbed 90% of them. The efficiency and quality of the products supplied on the market, not the size of the farms will be taken into account,” Vasile Myrzenko said.
