National Committee of Romanian-American Republicans supports Constantin Codreanu

The National Committee of Romanian-American Republicans throws its support to the candidate for Chisinau mayoralty of the National Unity Party (PUN) Constantin Codreanu. In a news conference at IPN, which involved two members of the Republican Party of the U.S., the Committee’s chairman Sorin Roiban said they approve of the program and views of the PUN candidate, noting the victory of Constantin Codreanu in the mayoral elections in Chisinau would be a first step towards Moldova’s union with Romania.

Sorin Roiban reminded that on June 28, 1991, the United States Senate adopted a resolution saying, among others, that they support the right to self-determination of the people of the Republic of Moldova and northern Bucovina and the Moldovan government’s eventual efforts to peacefully reunite with Romania. When the population in the Republic of Moldova shows an increasing wish to reunite with Romania, the winning of the mayoralty by Constantin Codreanu would be a first step in this regard.

“We chose to become involved in actions to defend and promote the principles and values of a healthy democracy, which is of the road to the West, to Europe. The wish of the people here cannot be ignored by anyone. These people have the right to unite with the motherland, as they did exactly 100 years ago. Remaining in a gray area in the current political context means falling prey to the sphere of influence of anyone that wants this, especially Russia, with the pretension of returning to the colonial power that existed earlier. We cannot allow this to happen when the conditions for the reunion are met,” stated Sorin Roiban.

In the same news conference, Laurel Bennett, a member of the Republican Party, said the Republic of Moldova is a country with development opportunities. It has resources and the people needed to make use of these opportunities. They are here to offer their support. The development of tourism is one of the opportunities. The wine industry is a path by which the tourists can be motivated to come to Moldova.

Elroy Sailor, strategist and a member of the U.S. President Donald Trump’s transition team, said that during his visit he had the occasion of walking on the streets of Chisinau and discussed with people who told him about their problems and their wishes. He also had a meeting with Constantin Codreanu and was delighted with the solutions he suggests in relations to the wishes of the residents of Chisinau.
