Over 100 local public authorities and nongovernmental organizations registered to take part in the World Cleanup Day 2023 campaign staged by the Ministry of Environment. Secretary of state Grigore Stratulat said that this figure points to increased public attention to environmental issues. The Ministry calls on the local public authorities, NGOs and the population to take part in the national cleanup campaign on September 15, IPN reports.
World Cleanup Day 2023 is not only a cleanup campaign, but is also an instrument that allows to concentrate the efforts of all the participants so as to accelerate the transition to circular economy and sustainable development. This year the campaign ends on September 16, when both the Ministry of Environment and other organizations, the local public authorities that take part in this event, after they identified a place, will go and make that place cleaner and greener, stated Grigore Stratulat.
The official noted that this event comes after another campaign to promote the reduction of plastic use or the switchover to other products that minimize plastic use was conducted in July under the theme “July without Plastic”. World Cleanup Day 2023 precedes the Inspectorate for Environmental Protection’s Ecological Bimonthly event that will take place in September-October and will end at the beginning of November 2023. The authorities aim to identify places where population throws waste illegally and to clean them.
World Cleanup Day is held on the third Saturday of September annually in 191 countries.
