National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga” exhibits rarest books from “Pushkiniana” collection

The National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga” set up an exhibition dedicated to the 210th anniversary of the birth of the Russian poet A. S. Pushkin. The exhibition includes a number of rare books from the library’s collection “Pushkiniana”. Among these is the oldest collection of poems by Pushkin, translated into Romanian and written in Latin script. It was published in 1937 in Tiraspol, Info-Prim Neo reports. The exhibition was visited by students from three Chisinau Russian-teaching high schools: “N. Gogol”, “M. Kotiubinski” and “A. Pushkin”. The visitors had the possibility of seeing rare books from the library’s collections gathered between 1949 and 1990. During this period, the present children’s library “Ion Creanga” bore the name of A. S. Pushkin. “We exhibited Pushkin’s books printed in other countries, rare books that are not available in the library’s reading room and that can be read only by teachers and writers. Now, the students can also see them and look through them,” said the exhibition’s organizer Eugenia Macrinscaia, who works for the National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga”. Jana Lozovan, librarian at “A. S. Pushkin” High School, praised the Library “Ion Creanga” for the effort it made to gather and keep these rare books. “I cannot believe that I hold in hands one of Pushkin’s books published in 1944,” said Chiril Covalenco, student of “M. Kotiubinski” High School. The books will be on display until June 12.
