National broadcaster: Media is independent in Moldova

The League of Professional Journalists and the national broadcasting company “Teleradio Moldova” said in a joint statement that the democratic reform in Moldova entails a process of continuously increasing detachment from the practice of imposing restrictions and exerting control by the government on the media and journalists, Info-Prim Neo. The constitutional provisions and the legislation passed in recent years, aligned with the European standards, ensure and encourage, guarantee and facilitate the freedom of opinion of citizens as well as their access to information. Thus, the government has offered strong safeguards and inalienable rights in order to guarantee human rights, including via the press, and promote democratic values and the freedom of opinion, the statement reads. According to the signatories, the process of media denationalization in Moldova has completed. The broadcasting has underwent a deep reform and the government doesn't interfere with the editorial policies of the news outlets, radio and television programs. The signatories also believe that no taboo on media communication exists in Moldova. There isn't any decision of the authorities – be it the legislative, executive or judicial branch – that would permit intrusion in the editorial policies or the personnel management of the media institutions in the country, the League of Professional Journalists and Teleradio Moldova say.
