National Bank to issue 4 commemorative coins
Moldova’s National Bank (BNM) will issue 4 commemorative coins in 2007, as means of payment and for numismatic collections. The number of copies, nominal value, design and other particularities of the coins are to be established later by BNM.
In the “personalities” series, a coin will be dedicated to the 480th anniversary of Prince Petru Rares’ reign, another one – to the 350th anniversary of Metropolitan Bishop Varlaam’s death.
The series of “festivities, culture and tradition”, will be completed with a coin which will focus on the tradition of pottery art, and the “Moldova Red Book” series will include a coin representing the European sousilik species (also called European ground squirrel, or Citellus citellus).
The coin’s themes have been coordinated by BNM with the History, State and Law Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Moldova’s Metropolitan Seat, and the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History.
Till now, BNM issued 46 types of jubilee and commemorative coins dedicated to various subjects and of different values.
