National Bank governor: Don’t hurry to change euros for dollars or lei

Moldovan National Bank (MNB) Governor Dorin Dragutanu believes that the steps taken by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund to support the single European currency should be effective enough. The euro should recover definitively in the foreseeable future. At the same time, the recent appreciation of the dollar against the leu shouldn’t last long. “Let’s wait a little. Things will clarify soon”, said Dorin Dragutanu, explaining that the global financial crisis isn’t over yet and so surprises cannot be excluded. The governor recommends individuals with savings in euro to leave them as they are. “The most indicated course of action to be followed in such situations when things are not clear is to wait a little, and refrain from changing euros for dollars or lei if there is no urgent need. Nor you need to change dollars and lei for euros. Haste in such situations is imminently leading to loss”, said Dorin Dragutanu. The MNB governor said that as far as he was concerned the amounts of euros changed at the domestic currency facilities in recent days didn’t exceed the normal levels.
