The National Awards Commission convened today at the Government to examine the 38 applications submitted in the competition. The winners will be made public with the adoption of a Government decision to this effect, and the awards will be handed in a ceremony on August 26 ahead of Independence Day, IPN reports.

The Awards were planned to be offered in four categories: science, technology, culture and arts, and sports. 13 applications were submitted for the science category, 4 for technology, and 20 for culture and arts. However, since only one application was submitted in the sports category, the Commission disqualified the category this year for “lack of fair competition”.

The Commission members voted for the winners in secret.

The 100,000 lei National Awards are offered to Moldovan citizens who have achieved remarkable accomplishments in said areas, improved Moldova's reputation aboard or had a significant impact nationally and globally.
