National Art Museum hosts Christmas tree exhibition

Tens of Christmas trees made from various materials by the students of the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts (AMTAP) and of the Technical University of Moldova are exhibited at the National Art Museum. The trees will be sold in a silent auction. Part of the money will be received by the authors and the other part will go to artist Ion Chitoroaga, who is in difficulty at the moment, IPN reports.

The exhibition will be open for the public until December 23 and visitors can vote for the most original Christmas tree, which will receive the people's award of 3000 lei. Then, a jury will choose the best works and offer awards from the funds alloted by the Ministry of Culture. The 1st place will receive 10000 lei, the 2nd place – 5000 lei and the 3rd place – 2000 lei. There will also be 5 encouragement awards of 1000 lei each. “There are 65 Christmass trees exhibited at the Museum and each of them deserves praise”, said Viorica Nagacevschi, co-founder of the Klumea public association.

In order to buy one the trees on exhibition, visitors must take part in a silent auction by filling in the form that can be found near the tree and writing the sum he or she is willing to pay. The next visitor who wants to buy the same tree must bid at least 25 lei more than the previous one. At the end of the exhibition, the highest bidder will be called to come and get the tree at a banquet on December 23, when the awards will be announced.

Ecaterina Grigorjevscaia, student at AMTAP, made a tree out of brooms of different sizes and added traditional decorations and lights on the margins. “It's an ethno-style Christmas tree, made of 33 brooms overlapping in circles. It's took me a month to make it”, said the student. Oxana Turtureanu, another AMTAP student, made a tree out of 40 books surrounded by present boxes and lights and used mirrors to create an optical illusion. Eugenia Batrincea, student at UTM, made a tree using the macrame technique: she crocheted 3 strings of different colors and applied them on a woven fabric and then on a metal housing.

This is the 4th edition of the Christmas tree exhibition.
