National Army supreme commander dismissed because of soldiers’ negligence

Marian Lupu demanded dismissing the General Staff chief and National Army supreme commander Iurie Dominic owing to the lack of discipline in the armed forces, which resulted in deaths among soldiers. “I made an order instructing the Ministry of Defense to initiate the procedure for dismissing the National Army commander. It is an intolerable situation when young people die in the army,” the Acting President told the press, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. By the same order, Marian Lupu warned the Carabineer Troops and the Border Guard Service to pay special attention to the education and discipline of the officers so as to avoid such tragic cases. “We shouldn’t have human victims when there is peace because there is no appropriate training and supervision,” he stated. The order to dismiss commander Iurie Dominic was made on September 23. Colonel Iurie Dominic was named General Staff chief and National Army supreme commander on May 26, 2010. Six soldiers have died as a result of negligent handling of firearms during the last two years.
