More than 200 service members and students of the Military Academy of the Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun” donated blood as part of the campaign “A way to life”. Blood collection centers were set up in the units of the garrisons of Chisinau, Cahul and Bălţi, IPN reports.
Minister of Health, Labor and Social Projection Sivia Radu said blood donation should be encouraged as this is a gesture of responsibility. “I call on all those who can donate blood and are in good health to do this. Each of us can help save a life,” stated Silvia Radu, thanking the soldiers for becoming involved.
Minister of Defense Eugen Sturza said the service members of the National Army regularly take part in blood donation campaigns so as to offer hope and a chance to live to those who have health problems. The intention is to stage such campaigns at least three times a year in 2019.
Svetlana Cebotari, director of the National Blood Transfusion Center, said blood donation helps maintain the stores of blood products needed by patients. It is important to know that blood products cannot be developed by technologies from other chemical products or components. Unusually, the blood groups with Rh negative are the most necessary ones.
Sergiu Chetraru, senior specialist at the General Staff of the National Army, said he has donated blood for almost six years. In childhood, he needed blood and his patents encountered difficulties in finding a donor. This motivated him to donate blood. “I’m convinced that blood donation is not a charity act, but rather a plus for the person’s health as the body renews the blood after donation and is thus rejuvenated,” he stated.
Service member Iurie Zaryshnyak donated blood for the first time and said he is glad to be able to help the people who need blood, while service members Sergiu Sashko is an active donor and he recommends donating blood and saving lives and forgetting about all the myths concerning donation.
People can donate blood at the National Blood Transfusion Center each day. About 80,000 donations for helping over 130,000 patients are needed daily to satisfy the necessities of the health system.
