The National Army received the second part of the military equipment provided as part of a cooperation program with the U.S. Department of Defense, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova. The equipment will be used in international peacekeeping operations for enhancing interoperability with other contingents taking part in missions.
The equipment was received in the framework of a project started in 2018 for achieving the objective to reform and transform the defense and security sector that is stipulated in the Government’s program.
The equipment will be distributed to military units for taking part in international peacekeeping operations, including in the KFOR operation in Kosovo, in which the Republic of Moldova has participated since 2014, and in the UNIFIL operation in Lebanon in which Moldovan soldiers will take part as of next August.
The first part of the given lot was shipped in September.
The Moldovan-American cooperation in the defense sector is governed by the memorandum on cooperation in the military sector signed by the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the U.S. Department of Defense on December 4, 1995.
The press release does not provide details about the U.S. military equipment offered to the Republic of Moldova.
