Parliament supports the national agrifood producers. In the April 22 sitting, the MPs gave a second reading to a bill to amend the law on domestic trade and the Contravention Code of the Republic of Moldova. The bill provides for the capping to 10% of the supplier’s selling price of the discounts offered by this to the trader for selling food products, IPN reports.
The marketing and advertising activities will be an exception. A time limit of 60 days will be set per product featured in marketing and advertising activities during a year. The trader or supplier that will violate the discount capping norms will face a fine of 2,500 to 5,000 lei in the case of private individuals and of 10,000 to 20,000 lei in the case of legal entities.
The law on domestic trade will be supplemented with such notions as “production process”, “regulations in the food sector” and “food safety”.
Bill author, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alexandru Slusari, of the PPPDA group, said the defining of such notions will enable to avoid situations of confusion or multiple interpretations when applying the law.
According to the MP, the law will facilitate the access of local producers, primarily the small ones, to national shop chains, will increase the consumption of national food products and also the profitability of national producers and will create new financial opportunities for modernizing the technologies of local producers or processors.
