The citizens must go vote in the referendum this Sunday and make their choice, but starting today, they must be prepared for what is to come. The fact that the referendum will be successful does not raise any doubts, says journalist Natalia Uzun, who was invited to IPN’s public debate “Accession to the EU: Road to Security and Prosperity for the Republic of Moldova”, the second edition.

Natalia Uzun said that, unfortunately, the problem with the referendum on joining the EU is that there is no clear understanding of how this process will take place, at what speed and how society can participate in it. Currently, the screening of national legislation is being carried out and it is not yet clear which laws will be amended and how. It is unclear whether we can trust those who make these changes or not.

According to the journalist, it is important to be aware that the pluralism of opinions does not exclude, but, on the contrary, implies the existence of alternative opinions and a political party that, in the future, could cancel the chosen political course, namely the integration into the EU. Changing the Constitution does not mean that the European course will remain unchanged.

Natalia Uzun also said that society, experts and politicians must learn to protect their own interests in the face of the “political storms” that will continue and intensify. Society must become capable of defending itself against inexperienced and populist politicians. If 10 years of European integration are needed for this, so be it.
